I'd been wanting to use the VJ Day pose as the basis for a sketch for a while now. That it would be a Superman piece was a given from the start, but who to be his lady? Certainly not Lois Lane; her on-and-off emotional abuse of him turned me off to her completely. Certainly not Lana Lang; the character is such a doormat that it wouldn't be worth it. And most of the other DCU heroines don't have any real connection to him.

It had to be Wonder Woman. There was nobody else who could have fit the bill.

So who to draw it? I debated holding off and maybe getting it done as a high-priced commission later on, but when :iconkatiecookie: was listed as an MCCC guest, it was a no-brainer. This had to be hers. She also did a Wonder Woman costume revamp that I like quite a lot [link] and it's that redesigned costume Diana sports here.

I have to say, Superman does look pretty happy here. And why shouldn't he? ;)

What was really funny was that while katiecookie was drawing this, her husband suggested that it would have been better to have Wonder Woman as the sailor and Superman as the nurse. I can just imagine how baffled Superman would be in that situation.

I agree I can't stand Lois.Capechaser who always in trouble and need saving and well...yawn. I love the SM/WW relationship in comics. It's one of equals, respect and trust and no secrets and lies.Plus WW is just the best.Thumbs up to katiecookie.

To be fair, I used to like Lois fine until the "Death of Superman" train wreck. That was when, right after poor Clark was entombed, she immediately hooked up with a scummy, sleazy ex-boyfriend named Jeb Friedman, who basically looked like Billy Ray Cyrus after being beaten with the ugly stick. (That he was a Marty Stu sex fantasy of Louise Simonson didn't help any.) Then came Lois cheating with Jeb -- at least emotionally -- after Clark came back (then-artist Ron Frenz actually admitted to this at MCCC), then came emotional abuse to Clark, dumping him for Jeb, blaming him for Jeb's death, then emotionally abusing him like mad after they got married (with a brief detour where the Parasite impersonated her, but how could you tell the difference?), accusing him of sleeping around with the female JLAers when the fake Cir-El Supergirl showed up, repeatedly trying to walk out on him for stupid reasons...I could go on. I know the writers didn't want to marry them off and have an obsession with the Love Triangle -- which is beyond stale and boring -- but really, making Lois into Superb**** doesn't make me want to see Superman with her in any way. It makes me want him to toss her to the curb and move on already.

I wouldn't describe myself as a Superman/Wonder Woman shipper per se, but given how nearly all the women in his mythos have been Not Even Remotely Ready For Prime Time as love interests, and given that his relationship with Wonder Woman has been given way more dignity and thought, I do think that of all the women he's ever known, Diana is probably the best for him. It also doesn't hurt that of all his relationships, theirs is the one that's been afforded the most dignity and respect.
