Description
Long time, no post. So here's a very special commission I was lucky to get this year: the pencils and inks of Steven Butler (WEB OF SPIDER-MAN, ARCHIE, SILVER SABLE) and the digital colors of Jesse Heagy on Eternia's finest.
This art originated as part of a Kickstarter campaign for Butler's Gallant Comics miniseries JOHN AMAN: AMAZING MAN. 11x17 pencil-and-ink commissions were part of the rewards, and I was eager to see Butler's take on The Artist Formerly Known as Prince Adam. And it was well worth the year-and-a-half wait: this may well be the best He-Man art in my collection to date. And I can't say enough about Jesse Heagy's color work. His decision to put He-Man back in his early '80s Superman-esque color scheme is a fantastic throwback to the Alfredo Alcala minicomics, the vintage MOTU bedsheets and merchandising, and the old Golden paint-with-water activity books. This image makes me feel like a little kid again, and had this been a poster in the early '80s during the original MOTU cycle, I bet this baby would have been selling like mad.
And yes, I do have the original black-and-white line art scanned. But I doubt any colorist is going to top Heagy's work here. He and Butler make a fantastic team, and I dare say their version of He-Man is iconic.
